Common questions about how Gini protects your email from phishing and scams.
How It Works
Does Gini read my emails?
Our AI scans emails for scam patterns, but no human ever reads your messages. We look for threats like suspicious links and fake sender addresses, not personal content.
Do I need to do anything after connecting?
No! Once connected, email protection works automatically in the background. You only need to interact when we alert you to a suspicious email.
Will Gini delete my emails?
No. We never delete, move, or modify your emails. We only alert you to potential threats and let you decide what to do.
How quickly are emails scanned?
Most emails are scanned within minutes of arriving. You don't need to have the Gini app open.
Privacy and Security
Is my email password safe?
We never see your email password. When you connect, you sign in directly with Google or Microsoft. They give us a special token to scan emails - we never have your actual password.
Does Gini store my emails?
No. We scan emails in real-time but don't copy or store your email content. We only keep records of flagged emails (sender, subject, threat type).
Can I disconnect at any time?
Yes. Go to Settings > Email Protection > Disconnect. We immediately lose access to your inbox.
Who can see my email alerts?
Only you. Your email alerts are private to your account.
Email Providers
Which email providers work?
Fully supported:
- Gmail
- Outlook (including Hotmail, Live, MSN)
Supported with app password:
- iCloud Mail
- AOL Mail
Coming soon:
- Yahoo Mail
- Comcast/Xfinity
Can I connect multiple email accounts?
Currently, you can connect one email account at a time. Connect the account you use most or receive the most suspicious emails on.
Does it work with work/school email?
It depends on your organization's settings. Some organizations restrict third-party app access. Check with your IT department.
Alerts and Flagged Emails
Why was this email flagged?
Each flagged email shows the specific reasons, such as:
- Suspicious sender address
- Dangerous links detected
- Urgent language typical of scams
- Requests for sensitive information
What if a legitimate email is flagged?
Occasionally good emails get caught. You can:
- Mark it as safe in the app
- The sender may be trusted more in the future
What if I already clicked a phishing link?
- Don't enter any information on the page
- Close your browser
- Change your password for that service (go directly to their website)
- Monitor your account for suspicious activity
Troubleshooting
Email protection shows "Not Connected"
You need to connect or reconnect your email:
- Go to Settings > Email Protection
- Tap Gmail or Outlook
- Sign in and approve permissions
I connected but don't see any alerts
This might mean:
- Your inbox is clean - no threats detected (good news!)
- Give it some time - scanning happens on new emails
- Check that your connection is still active
My work email won't connect
Work email accounts often have restrictions. Your organization's IT department may need to approve Gini or enable third-party access.
Comparison to Other Services
Is this different from Gmail's spam filter?
Yes. Gmail's filter catches traditional spam. Gini specifically looks for phishing - sophisticated scam emails that Gmail might miss because they don't look like typical spam.
Do I still need other email security?
Gini adds an extra layer of protection. It works alongside your email provider's built-in security, catching threats they might miss.
