When Gini detects a suspicious email, it flags it for your review. Here's how to see these alerts and decide what to do.
Finding Flagged Emails
In the Gini App
- Open Gini Help
- Tap Dashboard (or the home tab)
- Look for the Email Alerts section
- Tap to see all flagged emails
Or:
- Tap Settings
- Tap Email Protection
- Tap View Flagged Emails or Email Alerts
In Your Email Inbox
Flagged emails remain in your regular inbox - Gini doesn't move or delete them. You can still see them in Gmail or Outlook as you normally would.
Understanding the Alert
When you tap on a flagged email, you'll see:
Risk Level
Color-coded indicator (green, yellow, orange, or red) showing how dangerous Gini thinks the email is.
Why It Was Flagged
Gini explains the specific red flags found:
- "Suspicious sender address"
- "Links lead to unknown website"
- "Urgent language detected"
- "Requests sensitive information"
Email Details
- Sender address
- Subject line
- Date received
- Preview of content
Actions You Can Take
Mark as Safe
If you recognize the sender and trust the email:
- Tap Mark as Safe or Not a Threat
- This email will no longer show as flagged
- Future emails from this sender may be trusted more
Use this when Gini incorrectly flagged a legitimate email.
Delete
If the email is clearly spam or a scam:
- Tap Delete or Move to Trash
- The email is deleted from your inbox
Report as Phishing
If the email is definitely a phishing attempt:
- Tap Report or Report Phishing
- This helps improve Gini's detection for everyone
- The email is typically deleted after reporting
View in Email App
To see the full email in Gmail or Outlook:
- Tap View Full Email or Open in Gmail/Outlook
- Be careful not to click any links in the email itself
Ignore
If you want to leave the email alone:
- Simply go back to the previous screen
- The flag remains but you don't have to take action
Tips for Reviewing
When the Email Looks Legitimate
Even if an email seems real:
- Check the sender address carefully
- Look for the specific red flags Gini mentioned
- If unsure, contact the company directly through their official website
When You're Not Sure
If you can't tell if it's real or fake:
- Don't click any links in the email
- Don't reply to the email
- Go directly to the company's website (type the address yourself)
- Call the company using a number from their official website
When It's Obviously a Scam
If it's clearly phishing:
- Delete it immediately
- Consider reporting it to help others
- Don't engage with the sender
Clearing Old Alerts
To remove alerts you've already reviewed:
- Go to Email Alerts in the app
- Swipe left on individual alerts to dismiss
- Or tap Clear All to remove all reviewed alerts
If You Accidentally Clicked a Phishing Link
If you clicked a link in a phishing email:
- Don't enter any information on the page
- Close the browser immediately
- Change your password for the affected account (go directly to the real website)
- Watch for suspicious activity on your accounts
- Consider running an antivirus scan on your device
