Choosing Your Protection Level

Protection Level controls how thoroughly Gini questions an unknown caller before deciding whether to put them through.

It is a trade-off, and an honest one: a higher level catches more scammers and sends more real callers to voicemail. A lower level lets more calls through, both good and bad.

The Three Levels

🟢 Low — quick screen for known threats only

  • Gini asks 1–2 quick questions, then connects the call
  • Only obvious scam calls are blocked
  • Best if you receive a lot of calls that matter from numbers you don't know

🟡 Medium — balanced (recommended)

  • Gini asks 2–3 questions to verify who is calling and why
  • Callers who stay vague are sent to voicemail
  • A good balance of security and not missing things

This is where most people should be, and it is what Gini uses unless you change it.

🔴 High — thorough verification before connecting

  • Gini asks 3–4 detailed questions, with follow-ups
  • Unknown callers have to clearly establish they are legitimate
  • Best if you almost never expect a call from a stranger

How to Change It

  1. Open Gini Help
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Call Protection
  4. Under Protection Level, tap Low, Medium, or High

The change takes effect on your very next call. There is nothing to save.

Which Should I Pick?

Choose Low if you run a business, you're job hunting, you're waiting on a contractor or a doctor's office to call back, or real calls from unknown numbers are a normal part of your week.

Choose Medium if you aren't sure. It is the right answer for most people.

Choose High if everyone who matters is already saved in your phone, you rarely expect a call from a stranger, and the scam calls have been relentless.

Your Allow List Always Wins

Whatever level you pick, anyone on your allow list rings straight through without being screened at all. Protection Level only ever applies to callers Gini does not recognise.

This is why importing your contacts is worth doing. With your real people on the allow list, you can run a higher Protection Level without ever worrying about missing someone.

If You Get It Wrong

Nothing here is permanent, and you can tell from experience which way to move:

  • Missing real calls? Drop a level, and add the people you missed to your allow list.
  • Too much getting through? Raise a level.
