How Call Screening Works

Gini's call screening is like having a personal assistant who answers your phone when you can't. Our AI talks to callers to find out who they are and what they want, then sends you a summary so you can decide whether to call back.

The Screening Process

Here's exactly what happens when someone calls you:

1. The Call Comes In

When someone calls your phone, one of these things happens:

  • You answer: Gini doesn't get involved - it's your call
  • You don't answer: The call is forwarded to Gini for screening
  • Your line is busy: The call is forwarded to Gini
  • Your phone is off: The call is forwarded to Gini

2. Gini's AI Answers

When the call reaches Gini, our AI assistant answers with a friendly greeting like:

"Hi, you've reached [Your Name]'s call screening service. May I ask who's calling and the reason for your call?"

3. The Caller Responds

The caller has a choice:

  • Legitimate callers usually explain who they are and why they're calling
  • Robocalls often hang up immediately or play a recorded message
  • Scammers may try various tactics, but our AI is trained to spot them

4. The AI Analyzes the Call

While talking to the caller, Gini's AI looks for:

  • Red flags - Threats, urgency, requests for money or personal information
  • Caller intent - Are they selling something? Asking for donations? A personal call?
  • Known scam patterns - Phrases and tactics that scammers commonly use

5. You Get a Notification

Within moments, you receive a notification on your phone that includes:

  • Who called: The phone number and name (if available)
  • Why they called: A summary of what the caller said
  • Risk assessment: Whether the call looks safe, suspicious, or like a scam
  • Recording available: Listen to the actual screening conversation if you want

What the Notification Looks Like

When Gini screens a call, your notification will show:

Safe Call Example:

"Call from (555) 123-4567 - Dr. Smith's office calling to confirm your appointment for tomorrow at 2pm. Appears legitimate."

Suspicious Call Example:

"Call from Unknown Number - Caller claims to be from 'Technical Support' and says your computer has a virus. High risk of scam."

Your Options After Screening

After you see the notification, you can:

  1. Call back - If the call looks legitimate, tap to return the call
  2. Ignore - If it's spam or a scam, just ignore it
  3. Block the number - Prevent this caller from reaching you again
  4. Add to Allow List - If it's someone you know, add them so future calls ring through directly

Types of Calls Gini Catches

Robocalls

Automated calls that play recorded messages. These usually hang up when they reach a real screening service.

Telemarketing

Salespeople calling to sell products or services. Gini captures their pitch so you can decide if you're interested.

Scam Calls

Fraudsters pretending to be the IRS, tech support, your bank, or other trusted organizations. Gini flags these as high-risk.

Legitimate Calls

Doctor's offices, delivery notifications, appointment reminders. These come through with a "legitimate" assessment.

Calls That Skip Screening

Some calls will always ring through to you directly:

  • Contacts on your Allow List - People you've marked as trusted
  • Contacts you've imported - Friends and family from your phone's contact list
  • Numbers you've called recently - If you just called someone, their return call won't be screened
  • Emergency services - 911 and emergency callbacks

Privacy and Your Calls

  • Screening conversations may be recorded to provide you with accurate summaries
  • Recordings are encrypted and stored securely
  • Only you can access recordings of your screened calls
  • You can delete recordings at any time

How Accurate Is the Screening?

Gini's AI is highly accurate at identifying scam calls. However, no system is perfect. If a legitimate call is flagged as suspicious, you can still choose to call back. And if you add that number to your Allow List, they'll ring through directly next time.
