iPhones have some unique features that can affect call forwarding. Follow these tips to ensure Gini's call screening works properly on your iPhone.
Important: Disable Live Voicemail First
If you have iOS 17 or newer, you need to turn off Live Voicemail before call forwarding will work correctly.
What Is Live Voicemail?
Live Voicemail is an Apple feature that lets you see a live transcription of voicemail messages as they're being left. Unfortunately, it can intercept calls before they reach Gini.
How to Disable Live Voicemail
- Open the Phone app on your iPhone
- Tap the Voicemail tab at the bottom
- Look for Live Voicemail at the top
- Turn the toggle OFF
Now call forwarding to Gini will work properly.
Setting Up Call Forwarding on iPhone
Using Dial Codes (Recommended)
- Open the Phone app
- Tap the Keypad tab
- Enter the forwarding code from the Gini app
- Tap the green Call button
- Wait for confirmation
Using iPhone Settings (Some Carriers)
Some carriers let you set call forwarding in Settings:
- Open Settings > Phone
- Tap Call Forwarding
- Turn on Call Forwarding
- Enter Gini's number: 14149854464
Note: This method may only support "Forward All Calls" - dial codes offer more options.
Checking If Forwarding Is Active
Method 1: Status Bar Icon
When call forwarding is active, you may see a phone icon with an arrow in your status bar.
Method 2: Dial a Check Code
For AT&T and T-Mobile:
- Dial
*#21# - Tap Call
- You'll see your forwarding status
Method 3: Phone Settings
- Go to Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding
- If it shows a number, forwarding is active
Common iPhone Issues
"Call Forwarding Not Available"
This message appears when:
- Your carrier doesn't support the feature via Settings
- You need to use dial codes instead
- Your carrier requires you to enable forwarding through their website/app first
Solution: Use the dial codes from the Gini app instead of iPhone Settings.
Calls Going to Apple Voicemail Instead of Gini
Cause: Live Voicemail is probably still on.
Solution:
- Open Phone app > Voicemail tab
- Turn off Live Voicemail
- Re-test by having someone call you
Forwarding Works Sometimes But Not Always
Possible causes:
- Wi-Fi Calling can sometimes interfere
- Only some forwarding conditions are set up
Solutions:
- Try disabling Wi-Fi Calling temporarily to test
- Make sure all forwarding conditions are set (Busy, Unanswered, Unreachable)
Wi-Fi Calling Considerations
Wi-Fi Calling lets your iPhone make calls over Wi-Fi instead of cellular. Most of the time it works fine with call forwarding, but occasionally it can cause issues.
If you're having trouble:
- Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling
- Turn it off temporarily
- Test call forwarding
- Turn Wi-Fi Calling back on after confirming forwarding works
Dual SIM iPhones
If your iPhone has two phone numbers (Dual SIM):
- Set up forwarding for each line separately
- Each line needs its own forwarding codes
- In Gini, make sure you protect the correct line
Tips for Success
- Always disable Live Voicemail first - This is the #1 issue on iPhones
- Use dial codes - They're more reliable than Settings
- Test after setup - Have a friend call to confirm it works
- Check for a forwarding icon - Confirms it's active
