Why Gini Did Not Screen My Call

If a call came through without being screened by Gini, there are several possible reasons. Here's what to check.

Common Reasons

1. You Answered the Call

Gini only screens calls you don't answer. If you picked up (even accidentally), screening didn't happen.

Check: Think back - did you interact with the call at all?

2. The Caller Is on Your Allow List

People on your Allow List bypass screening entirely. Their calls ring directly through.

Check: Go to Settings > Call Protection > Allow List and see if the number is there.

3. The Caller Is in Your Contacts

If you've imported contacts, they also bypass screening.

Check: Search your phone's Contacts for that number.

4. Call Forwarding Isn't Set Up

If call forwarding isn't active, calls won't reach Gini.

How to check:

  • Dial *#21# (AT&T/T-Mobile) to see forwarding status
  • Or go to Gini > Settings > Call Protection and verify setup

5. Call Forwarding Was Disabled

Sometimes call forwarding gets turned off accidentally or by carrier updates.

How to fix:

  1. Open Gini Help
  2. Go to Settings > Call Protection
  3. Re-dial the forwarding codes

6. iPhone Live Voicemail Is On

If you have an iPhone with Live Voicemail enabled, it may intercept calls before Gini.

How to fix:

  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Tap Voicemail
  3. Turn off Live Voicemail

7. Visual Voicemail or Carrier Features

Your carrier's voicemail or spam blocking features may conflict with Gini.

How to fix:

  • Disable your carrier's visual voicemail app
  • Turn off carrier spam blocking (Gini handles this now)

Checking Your Setup

Step 1: Verify Call Forwarding

For AT&T and T-Mobile: Dial *#21# and tap Call. You'll see if forwarding is active and where calls go.

For Verizon: Check in the Gini app or contact Verizon to verify forwarding status.

Step 2: Check the Allow List

  1. Open Gini Help
  2. Go to Settings > Call Protection > Allow List
  3. Make sure the missed caller isn't on this list

Step 3: Check Your Contacts

Search your phone's contacts for the number that wasn't screened.

Step 4: Try a Test Call

  1. Have someone not in your contacts call you
  2. Don't answer
  3. Check if Gini screens the call

Still Not Working?

If you've checked everything and calls still aren't being screened:

Re-Setup Call Forwarding

  1. First, disable all forwarding:
    • AT&T/T-Mobile: Dial ##002#
    • Verizon: Dial *73
  2. Wait a minute
  3. Set up forwarding again using the codes in Gini

Contact Your Carrier

Some carriers require call forwarding to be enabled on their end first. Contact customer service and ask them to enable call forwarding on your account.

Calls That Can't Be Screened

Some calls may never reach Gini:

  • Emergency callbacks - 911 return calls bypass forwarding
  • Direct answers - Any call you pick up
  • Carrier-blocked calls - Some spam is blocked before it reaches you
  • International restrictions - Some international calls have different routing
