Protection Level controls how strictly Gini judges your incoming texts.
The Four Levels
| Level | What it does |
|---|---|
| Low | Basic protection — only known spam numbers |
| Medium | Balanced — pattern matching plus known spam numbers |
| High | Enhanced — strict filtering plus AI analysis |
| Maximum | Blocks all unknown senders |
Medium is the default and the right answer for most people.
Maximum treats every sender you have never heard from as suspect. That includes the delivery notification you were actually waiting for and the verification code you actually requested. Only use it if you genuinely never expect a text from a new number.
How to Change It
- Open Gini Help
- Tap Settings
- Tap Text message protection
- Under Protection Level, tap Low, Medium, High, or Maximum
The change applies to messages that arrive after you make it.
Choosing the Right Level
Choose Low if you frequently text with new numbers — buying and selling online, dating apps, a lot of service confirmations — and you would rather see some spam than miss something real.
Choose Medium if you aren't sure.
Choose High if you are getting a lot of scam texts and nearly everyone who texts you is already in your contacts.
Choose Maximum only if you truly never expect a message from an unknown number, and you are willing to go check what was caught.
Other Settings
Under Advanced Settings on the same screen:
- Auto-Quarantine — automatically set suspicious messages aside instead of only warning you
- Check URLs — inspect links in a message for known phishing sites
- Block Notifications — alert you the moment a message is blocked
- Verify Sender — check whether a sender is who they claim to be
People in Your Contacts Are Never Filtered
Whatever level you pick, texts from people saved in your phone always come through untouched. Protection Level only applies to senders Gini does not recognise.
If You Get It Wrong
- Finding real messages caught? Drop a level.
- Still seeing scam texts? Raise one.
Nothing is deleted at any level, so a mistake in either direction is recoverable — you just have to go look.
