What Data Does Gini Collect?

We believe you should know exactly what data we collect and why. This guide provides a complete, honest overview of the information Gini gathers to protect you.

The Short Version

We collect only what's needed to:

  1. Create and manage your account
  2. Screen calls and identify scams
  3. Protect your email and texts
  4. Improve our protection over time

We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

Full name To personalize your experience
Email address For account access and important notifications
Phone number To know which calls to screen
Password To secure your account (stored encrypted)

Optional: Profile photo, date of birth (if you provide them)

Phone Protection Data

To screen your calls, we collect:

Call Records

  • Phone numbers that call you (when forwarded to Gini)
  • Time and date of calls
  • Call duration
  • Screening outcome (answered, went to voicemail, etc.)

Call Recordings

  • Audio of the screening conversation (caller speaking to our AI)
  • These are encrypted and stored securely
  • You can delete them at any time

Allow List and Block List

  • Phone numbers you've marked as trusted or blocked
  • Names you've assigned to those numbers

Email Protection Data

When you connect your email:

What We Access

  • Email headers (sender address, subject line, date)
  • Links contained in emails
  • Email body content (scanned by AI for threats)

What We Store

  • Records of flagged emails (sender, subject, threat type)
  • Your email connection status
  • We do NOT store copies of your emails

How OAuth Works

When you sign in with Google or Microsoft:

  • You enter your password on their site, not ours
  • We receive a token that lets us scan emails
  • We never see or store your email password

SMS Protection Data

For text message protection:

  • Incoming texts from unknown numbers
  • Links in those messages
  • Sender phone numbers

What We Store

  • Records of filtered messages
  • Spam detection outcomes
  • We do NOT store the content of your conversations

Local Processing

Much of SMS scanning happens on your device. Messages from your contacts are never analyzed.

Contact Information

If you give us contact access:

  • Names and phone numbers from your contact list
  • Used to identify callers and build your Allow List

What We Don't Do

  • We don't upload your entire contact list
  • We don't share contacts with anyone
  • We don't use contacts for marketing

Device Information

We do NOT track your location. Gini does not collect GPS data, location history, or any geographic information about where you are.

  • Personal conversations (calls or texts)
  • Location/GPS data
  • Financial information (beyond billing)
  • Social Security numbers
  • Contents of your photo library
  • Browsing history
  • Data from other apps

How Long We Keep Data

Your Control

You can always:

  • View data we've collected (in Settings)
  • Delete call recordings
  • Disconnect email accounts
  • Remove contact access
  • Delete your entire account and all data
